House from 1599

Above the door it says ‘Wie zijn oren stopt voor het roepen der armen, God zal hem niet ontfarmen’ which translates as: ‘He who stops his ears to the cries of the poor shall find no mercy from God.’ This refers to the original function of a guest house for homeless people and travellers.

This is a so-called stable door, a door that can be opened in two parts. By only opening the upper part, fresh air can enter the house without dirt or animals getting inside.

The stepped gable is not original; it was added during the large-scale renovation of the house in 1954.
