The collection
The Texel House of Antiquities has a rich and diverse collection of heritage of the people of Texel. It especially involves furniture, tableware, paintings, kitchenware, clothes, and household textile. In addition, the collection of the Texel House of Antiquities contains personal objects such as toys, tobacco products, diaries, and poetry albums. By far the most objects date back to the period of 1850-1950. Together, they tell personal stories about living and residing on an island, whether you were a doctor, shopkeeper, farm worker or a fisherman.
Collection policy
The Texel House of Antiquities aims to preserve the material and immaterial heritage of life on Texel, from the early modern period up to and including the Second World War, for future generations. By combining living spaces, historical objects, and human stories, the museum brings everyday life on Texel to life.
Not all of the approximately 7,000 collected objects can be on permanent display. That’s why the Texel House of Antiquities hosts a rotating exhibition every two years, focusing on a specific theme. The collection stored in the depot is available on request for educational purposes, researchers, and writers.

The collection website
The objects of the Texel House of Antiquities can now – in part – be found online through the collection website. This digital archive will eventually include all objects, not just those on display in the Texel House of Antiquities but also objects stored in the depot.
Volunteers and collection staff are working hard to register and photograph every piece, gradually expanding the online collection. Be sure to have a look!
On the collection website you also find the collections of Kaap Skil Museum, Ecomare and Lighthouse Texel.

Loans and donations
Museum collections, in essence, belong to everyone. That’s why we’re happy to collaborate to loaning objects for a temporary or long-term stay in another museum or institution. We only accept objects in loan if they can be placed in the temporary or permanent exhibition.
Would you like to donate objects to the Texel House of Antiquities? You can offer them as a gift during your lifetime or include the donation in your estate. Good to know: not every object offered is accepted; the curator decides whether an object fits the collection. If you’d like to learn more about a specific object, the collection in general, or about loans and donations, you can contact the collection manager using the form below.
